River Horse Games Bringing Labyrinth the Gaming Table

Hold on to your bedazzled codpieces people. River Horse Games and The Jim Henson Company are collaborating to create a board game based on Labyrinth!

The Labyrinth board game follows the plot of the 1986 movie featuring Jennifer Connelly, some puppets, David Bowie, and some very tight pants.  Sarah has been a little negligent and gotten her baby brother kidnapped by Jareth, the goblin king!

jareth Jareth: “You have thirteen hours in which to solve the labyrinth, before your baby brother becomes one of us… forever.”

You and your motley crew of friends must first you must find your way through the maze without losing your precious willpower. Then, you must fight past Jareth’s minions to gain entry into the castle so that Sarah can say the  magical words to free her brother. “Give me the child. Through dangers untold and hardships unnumbered, I have fought my way here to the castle beyond the Goblin City to take back the child that you have stolen, for my will is as strong as yours, and my kingdom as great.”

jessasm Jess: Don’t mess these up or that baby will be goblinized in no time!

The board for this game is as finely detailed as a Where’s Waldo and beautifully illustrated. The players must navigate the maze to find their way to the central tower where Sarah’s baby brother is being held captive by the goblin king. The maze will change each time, using cards to fill blank spaces with encounter cards that players will need to overcome to continue down the path.

Recently River Horse released images of the 54mm scale playing pieces for the game, sculpted by Johnny Fazer-Alien. They are so awesome! Check out the gallery below for the images.
According to their site the game is finished  and planned to release this summer! I cannot wait! The game looks beautiful and it seems like the mechanics will keep it true to the feeling of the movie. You can keep track of the projects progress by signing up for the newsletter on their homepage or checking their Facebook page.

  1. Don’t trust River Horse. This company is unprofessional and unreliable. Those who pre ordered for the Labyrinth game were told they would get them by end of July 2016. It’s first week of November 2016 and they claim they haven’t even gotten the product in their wearhouse yet. However the Italian edition is available in stores right now through DV Giochi. They don’t communicate with people who pre order about delays in a timely manner either. Don’t trust them. Don’t support pre orders from them. Don’t support Kickstarter or other such campaings from them. If you really must have a game made by this company wait till its in stores. You’ll get it earlier that way than if you pre order.
