Based on the video game This War of Mine by 11 bit studios, This War of Mine: The Board Game is a co-op, scenario driven survival game for 1-6 players. The developer, Awaken Realms, has managed to turn a digital game where everyone plays civilians trying to find a way to survive in their war torn city, into a powerfully emotional board game.
Jess:The game looks immense. It comes with 12 minis, more than 200 cards, 200 tokens, and over a 1000 unique adventures. Just like the video game, players will face tough moral choices in each story. You’ll be scavenging for food and supplies, and shelter, while navigating the muddy waters of your own decisions. We got to take a look at it at Pax East and I was seriously impressed with just how much they managed to squeeze into the box. Andrew actually got to play a few minutes of the game.
Andrew: I think it has a tremendous amount of potential. I love games that make you make tough choices, and that’s central to the game’s theme and mechanics. Weighing moral options with limited resources is a great mechanism for injecting the best kind of stress into a game, and This War Of Mine seems like it’s trying to give those choices even more gravity, since they can come back to bite you in the ass.
For £50 (about $72) you get 1 copy of the core set plus all related unlocked stretch goals. You’ll still have to play shipping, but you are getting a tremendous amount of game for your money.
