This is the first game designed by Ekaterina Gorn and Igor SklyuevIn and in it 2-4 players will choose from several races including Humans and aliens like the Darloks, Psilons, and Meklar. Each player will be building up their civilizations in a 4X, “eXplore, eXpand, eXploit, and eXterminate,” style game.
“Master of Orion: The Board Game is special in the way that it integrates all the complexity of the classic video game franchise, yet remains accessible to anyone,” said Adam Sblendorio, Vice President of Creative at Cryptozoic. “It’s incredibly easy to learn. Players will be making important decisions and exploring strategies at the start of even their very first gameplay session.”
To play you’ll begin with a board that has four tracks: Food, Fleet, Production, and Morale. Each turn you’ll have a number of action cubes which can be spent on managing you resources and building systems in your tableau. Victory Points are gained by playing cards, attacking opponents, and having certain resources and cards at the end of the game.
Jess: While at Gen Con this weekend we got a chance to hold the box, but sadly Cryptozoic sold out of the limited pre-release quantities of the game, so I guess we’ll have to wait to get a real look at it.
Master of Orion: The Board Game will be available at retailers nationwide September 6 for a suggested retail price of $35. You can learn more on the Cryptozoic blog: cryptozoic.com/blogs/master-orion-board-game-4x-gaming-hour
