Pandasaurus Games has announced they will be publishing a stand-alone 2 player sequel to Dinosaur Island called Duelosaur Island!
Jess: Andrew don’t fire me. I don’t make the puns. I just report them.
This new dino park battling game, designed by Ian Moss and developed by Jon Gilmour, uses hand-management, tableau-building and a “I cut you choose” dice drafting mechanic and incorporate all new artwork from Kwanchai Moriya and Peter Wocken.
“We first heard about Duelosaur Island just before GenCon last year. Jon told us that Ian had a game to show us and that it was based on Dinosaur Island. At the pitch meeting Ian had a complete copy of the game ready to play and Molly and I played through the entire game in the booth. Twice. It was obvious from the get-go that this game had everything that made Dinosaur Island special, but the mechanics were so tight and the choices so interesting it was signed on the spot”. – Nathan McNair, Pandasaurus Games
“One of the things we loved most about the game is how much it felt like playing a game of Dinosaur Island, even though the mechanics are completely different. You still roll DNA dice, you still make dinosaurs, you still must manage your threat level. But then there is this super clever card mechanism that leaves you with so many tense decisions to make. And don’t even get me started on the dice-drafting mechanism. Once the DNA dice are rolled the first-player sets the market by assigning different dice different bonuses, but the second-player gets to choose first. Do you give the dice you need to good bonuses and risk your opponent taking them? Or do you play it safe and throw the solid bonuses on the dice you don’t want” said President of Pandasaurus Games Nathan McNair.
Jess: Each card in Duelosaur Island has 3 options. You can use them for DNA sequences, blueprints for attractions, or discard them to take certain actions. Andrew is a huge fan of games who incorporate multi-purpose cards and seeing as we love 2 player games, I think we’ll be grabbing this game as soon as it comes out.
Duelosaur Island will have 5 new DNA dice which can be swapped between Dinosaur Island and Duelosaur Island. This will add more variety to the games and give you more options to play with such as a die with automatic security upgrades.
Duelosaur Island is scheduled for release later this year at an MSRP of 34.95. You can learn more at pandasaurusgames.com.
