Kickstarter Deals Out a Hand of Fate Board Game

Ever since GDC, I have been eagerly awaiting the Hand of Fate: Ordeals Kickstarter. Andrew and I are big fans of the video game Hand of Fate, so when I heard that Defiant Development and Rule & Make were coming together to make a board game based off of it, I just about lost my darned mind.

Hand of Fate: Ordeals will be a deck-building game for 1-4 players. You’ll be able to choose to play cooperatively or competitively with your fellow players, but in the end the player with the most fame by the end of the game wins. Fame is earned by activating encounters, defeating enemies and buying cards. There is also a single-player campaign mode, which sounds awesome to me!

Like the video game, your turn will consist of moving (so long as you have enough food or health), playing cards, and activating encounters. Once you finish an encounter, you can buy as many cards as you can afford. Encounters cards create the map and start out face-down. Whenever you move on to a face-down Encounter card, it will flip over; revealing your fate! For more info on how to play, check out the rulebook here.

Hand of Fate: Ordeals encourages strong competition without restricting the prevalent sense of adventure experienced in the video game series,” said Morgan Jaffit, creative director, Defiant Development. “Players pursue their own path as they gather resources, make difficult decisions and brave combat in the race to become the most infamous adventurer on the board.”

I really like the look of the board and minis. It is very reminiscent of the gameboard in the original Hand of Fate. I am really excited to try it out on single player mode to see if it replicates the play style well.

There is only one Pledge level for the Kickstarter. For $59 USD + Shipping you get a copy of Hand of Fate: Ordeals, a KS Exclusive Kallas Idol Figure, the Hand of Fate Video Game for Steam, and all unlocked stretch goals.

The game will launch in November 2017. Andrew has already secured his pledge and if you are interested in following his lead, check out the Hand of Fate: Ordeals Kickstarter here.
