Games in education is an emerging, dynamic, and rapidly growing sub-discipline. A core commitment of the Digital Media program in Curriculum & Instruction (C&I) is that equity, education, making, and play are deeply interrelated. By enabling students to express themselves by playing and making games, we can explore and improve our understanding of teaching and learning and engage students who are both consumers and producers of knowledge.
Candidates will bring or establish a nationally recognized research program focused on games and education and highlight the growing interdisciplinary work among researchers in education who focus on games and game-based learning. We hope to create an environment that will allow us to maintain our current programmatic commitments to teacher education in mathematics, science, and technology while allowing us to:
-Build a dynamic graduate program that will attract and fund the highest caliber of students;
-Create a generation of scholars who work collaboratively across domains of knowledge in education;
-Seek federal and private funding to support research and graduate training in games and education.
